Recently, the second annual Fort Edmonton Foundation Golf Classic, hosted by the Fort Edmonton Foundation, concluded successfully at The Quarry Golf Club. This event not only continued the brilliance of its inaugural year but also elevated community spirit and cultural exchange to new heights. Sinocan Supply Inc., a well-known Baijiu distributor originating from Edmonton and expanding across Canada, once again partnered with Wuliangye to sponsor this grand occasion, adding a unique touch to the event.
Since its founding in 1969, the Fort Edmonton Foundation has been dedicated to preserving and passing on Edmonton’s rich history by rebuilding the original Fort Edmonton and establishing a living historical museum. In recent years, with support from various of government and the foundation, Fort Edmonton Park completed a comprehensive three-year enhancement project and reopened to the public in July 2021, becoming a model for showcasing local cultural heritage and strengthening community bonds.
This summer, the 2024 Fort Edmonton Foundation Golf Classic was successfully held at the renowned Quarry Golf Club. This event was not only a fun-filled celebration of golf and community spirit but also a remarkable fusion of Eastern and Western cultures. The tournament featured 27 holes and attracted nearly 200 golf enthusiasts, with City Councillor Aaron Paquette personally hosting the event, adding to the grandeur and excitement of the occasion.
As the tournament progressed, the atmosphere grew increasingly vibrant. Guests, while enjoying the sport of golf, were also captivated by the Wuliangye Baijiu and expertly crafted cocktails provided on-site. For many Western guests, this was their first encounter with Chinese Baijiu, and their faces lit up with delight upon tasting these unique, culturally rich cocktails for the first time.
Notably, this year’s cocktail inspiration was drawn from Alberta’s provincial flower—the wild rose. The bartender skillfully infused rose elements into the cocktails, giving them a rich, elegant, and refreshingly romantic flavor. In the light breeze of early summer, these hints of tropical flavor added a layer of sophistication and charm to the high-latitude golf course, perfectly blending the traditional elegance of Chinese Baijiu with the refined culture of Western golf.
Is it appropriate to drink while playing sports? In fact, the tradition of pairing golf with alcohol has a long history. Golf originated along the cold coastal regions of Scotland, where players often warmed themselves with whiskey. Over time, the habit of sipping whiskey while playing evolved into the 18-hole golf format we know today. Thus, enjoying a fine drink on the golf course has become customary, with the choice of beverage entirely up to the player’s preference and mood.
As a leading brand of Chinese Baijiu, Wuliangye’s dazzling debut on the golf course sparked curiosity and attention from many golfers. One golfer enthusiastically remarked, “Chinese Baijiu has always evoked a sense of mysterious Eastern allure for me, and today’s experience deepened my appreciation for its uniqueness and charm. I’m eager to learn more!”
Throughout the event, Wuliangye’s distinctive flavor and exquisite craftsmanship received widespread acclaim. A local golfer with extensive knowledge of world-class spirits commented that Wuliangye’s taste is rich and delicate, with various flavors harmoniously blending together. It preserves the classic characteristics of traditional Chinese Baijiu while showcasing the sophisticated techniques of conventional distillation. It has become one of his favorite Baijiu brands, and he plans to recommend it to more friends and family.
Wuliangye is not just a fine spirit; it is a symbol of Chinese culture. This event in support of the Fort Edmonton Foundation in Canada not only demonstrated respect for local culture and traditions but also promoted cultural exchange and integration between East and West, showcasing the unique allure of Chinese Baijiu culture to Western guests. We look forward to more events involving Wuliangye, where cultural exchange continues to deepen, allowing more people to understand and appreciate the diverse customs of different countries, working together to build a more diverse world.
In September 2023, Sinocan Supply Inc. in Canada, in partnership with Wuliangye, sponsored the inaugural Fort Edmonton Foundation Annual Golf Classic.
In the future, Wuliangye will continue to uphold this cultural mission, deepening its exploration of global cooperation and exchange, and advancing Chinese Baijiu on the world stage. At the same time, Sinocan Supply Inc. will continue to bring this wonderful cultural experience to consumers in Canada and around the world, witnessing and promoting the deep fusion and shared prosperity of Eastern and Western cultures in a globalized context. This is Wuliangye’s vision, as well as Sinocan Supply’s ideal and mission as a global ambassador of Baijiu culture.
